Meg stepping out onto our rutschblock test block. The rutschblock is a block of snow 2 meters wide and 1.5 meters deep. The back wall is cut away from the snow behind it using a string with knots. A person then steps out onto the block and the ease with which it slides indicates the stability of the layers in the block. This block is quite unstable.
