Meg stepping out onto our rutschblock test block. The rutschblock is a block of snow 2 meters wide and 1.5 meters deep. The back wall is cut away from the snow behind it using a string with knots. A person then steps out onto the block and the ease with which it slides indicates the stability of the layers in the block. This block is quite unstable.
looks like you were in a pretty exposed area with quite a bit of that unstable snow above you!

Yup, didn't even get to the first weighted step test. Pretty unstable. Clean sheer too.
