The three Bata drummers are displaying how to play the Bata drums (iya-ilu, omele abo , and (3in1) omele ako) together while the dancers are dancing different types of traditional dances.

The first dance is obatala dance by a man in aso oke dress with cap holding small horse tail. Followed by normal bata dance by two young boys. The third dance is shango dance by the man without cloth holding coconut maracas in his hand. Forth dance is the modern way of dancing bata by the guy putting on long sleeve top and jeans trouser. This dance proves you can use bata in other occasion gatherings apart from traditional ones. Fifth dance by 3 people which the guy on jeans trouser later joined them is egungun dance and end with bata body movement dance.

  • Hello nice video!! I am learning Bata drumming now in Germany. I just had one lesson. Starting with Omele Basics. Here in this video I see, that in the modern style (fourth dance) Omele is like the main instrument or solo Instrument. Very cool! I thought Omele is used like more in the back to give a foundation for the motherdrum but as I can see here it works very well for soloing.......Greetings to Nigeria from Germany
