This is from the Santa Barbara Solstice Parade website...

"Summer Solstice Parade began in 1974, as a birthday celebration for a popular artist and mime named Michael Gonzales. The Parade is the largest, single-day arts event in Santa Barbara County, drawing crowds of over 100,000 spectators from around the world. From these humble beginnings arose a celebration of life which, is like no other."

  • I grew up in Santa Barbara ... I remember Summer Solstice as being one of my favorite days of the year there. No one anywhere else celebrates like they do in SB. The rest of the Country, Solstice is like any other day. Also, used to love Fiesta before they ruined it by making everyone drink inside the bars.... took away a lot of the atmosphere there used to be in the old days. I made fun of the old hum-drum as well. Not until I moved did I realize how special & unique SB really is.

  • True.

  • This video makes it look more exciting than it really was. There were too many old ladies with not enough clothing on and too many drunken men smelling of sweat and cheap beer. Part-TAY!!

  • I'll second that.

  • Ho hum... same old stuff-- why can't they do something new? Precision dance teams, inflat-0-suns, gigunda bicycles, drums on pushcarts... fire and ice kissing... I guess there really is nothing new under the sun...

  • Woot woot.

Almost like a white trash Doo Da Parade. Wait, the Doo Da Parade IS white trash. I don't know you anymore, man.

  • 1:05-1:12......that's what i'm talking about. That music and those seven seconds were meant to be together.

  • Dancin' ladies are the best. I especially liked when this white girl, in a group of bootastic latinas, tried to shake what her momma gave her, which wasn't much to write home about, so she bent over almost double to give the illusion that she had a bum. Hahaha, silly white girl!

  • How about all them dancin' ladies though ehhhh... there aint nothin' wrong with that!

  • Yeah...a better name for this would be the Santa Barbara Hippie Art Student Parade. Excellent news about that shake, my man!
