On June 6th, Scott Pelley became the newest anchor of the CBS Evening News. While no major changes were made in the look of the newscast, there were a few notable tweaks to the graphics - and a major change with the music.

The more astute of you will noticed that it sounds like the CBS News theme from the late 1980s - that's because it is. That's right, the network actually dug out the 1987 theme by John Trivers and Elizabeth Myers. The set now boasts a world projection similar to the late 1980s and early 1990s sets, while the graphics take on a predominantly blue design.

It feels a bit hodgepodge... and to be honest I'm not sure if going back to 1988 is a great move, but it's certainly a different feel than the Katie Couric era...

  • I love how they combined what sound to me, like bits of Rather's and Couric's themes in this newscast!

But more importantly, props to Scott for starting the newscast off with what really matters to us rather than the sex scandall of Congressman Weaner. As long as he keeps going the way he is, I'll continue watching!

  • @DorvellTStewart It's actually not a mix of the Rather and Couric theme - it's actually the very first variant of the Rather theme, used all the way back in 1987.

  • They reverted back to and updated the old theme music that was for Dan Rather and Bob Scheiffer's newscasts. I wonder if they will utilize the celebrity voice over like Brian Williams and Diane Sawyer have?

  • @sdh74 No more Morgan Freeman or celebrity voiceover. The new v/o is the guy who does the promos for 60 Minutes. Which, given that they want to associate the newscast with 60 Minutes....

  • Also, yes, I know the sync goes a little wacky at the end. Need to find a way to fix that.

  • @HulkieG Sometimes you have to go back to the basics...but the 1987 theme continues to be my favorite. Makes me feel like a kid again

  • the 87-91 theme is the best version in my opinion

  • From 2:00 to 2:10, the best segment.

  • scott pelley should run for president .

  • I love the American news! So dramatic and unashamedly American. How does the news work in The US? Where I'm from here in Ireland with a population of six million and only one timezone, the national news simply goes out at 1pm, 6pm and 9pm. But with over 300million people and four timezones, how does it work? I find it interesting :)

  • snott pelley reminds me of Mr. Humphries. Only Mr. Humphries was cool. snott pelley just sucks!

  • "More gullible fucking idiots get their news from CBS than from any other source".

Rather, Couric, Pelley....it doesn't matter who tells the news for this pathetic network. As long as CBS spouts the same liberal leaning propoganda, in the same biased manner, the'll forever be owned night...after night....after night... by FOX News where ratings and viewership are concerned. Honorable big network journalism died with Edward Murrow and Walter Kronkite years ago.

  • He jumped out of plane and who saved who?

  • @TheInternetisMagic and that trust was betrayed when Dan Rather lied about document and had no evidence ruining the credibility of CBS News. They're still paying for that half a decade later. Rather screwed them over. Royally.

  • @HulkieG Composed by John Trivers and Liz Myers.

  • Love music 2:00 - 2:10! But I must say that I liked Katie more...
