@Dimitri0809 cont. her first 2 albums didn't make any form of an impact, despite her being a MJ's sister. what made her popular was a) teaming with the production team of jimmy jam and terry lewis and bringing new jack swing to a mainstream audience, b) making personal and socially aware records that people could relate to and c) distancing herself from the family name and soaring on her own. do a bit of research on the subject.
