With nearly 100 executive branch nominees awaiting final confirmation by the Senate, many Senators have begun to ask a simple, but important question, "What's the hold up?" While Republicans seem to believe that obstructionism is the best political strategy for their Caucus, several of their individual members have made use of a procedural tactic called "holds." Secret holds mean that no one knows why opposition exists and no Senator can bargain on the issue. Senator Claire McCaskill argues for the elimination of secret holds and asks that any Senator -- Democrat or Republican -- make their complaint about a nominee public. "Good government doesn't include the word 'secret' in the phrase," said McCaskill.
Sen. Tom Coburn, you sound like an insurance company representative
doing the dirty work of the company as they refuse appropriate health care for someone who is sick.
Dump this secret hold rule.
