Sir I must say your method by far is the best method of UV Mapping i have ever seen. Right after watching these videos I have applied this method to a Robot Character I had recently created. I finally wanted to finish a project to 100% completion and thought I should start with this guy, and so far your method is working ot perfectly.

Why did you select different areas and then stitch together their UVs? Why not just select the whole larger area?

I also try using Planar Mapping on the arms but instead of using Move and Sew UV Edges, I use Sew UV Edges only and it doesn't got diagonally projected. Is it okay?

I have a question,
how do you lay out UV's for the arms? what will I use Planar, Cylindrical, or Spherical Mapping? I tried Planar Mapping on the arms but when I move and sew it, the checkered on the arms was diagonally projected. I haven't tried the Cylindrical or Spherical Mapping because I don't know how to use that. Please help me. Thanks!

I do this method because I generally like the specific control I can get over smaller areas. the larger you work, well for me it feels like cleaning up distortion after the fact. Rather I go forward in smaller chunks and for me I get much less UV distortion.

I did think of one thing though...try assigning a new material to the mesh, then go into the UV texture editor and select UVS and delete them through the UV Texture Editor menu. It might be that you still had the default lambert on that material that causes that?

hmmm...interesting. I know you should be able to delete the UVs on a mesh and not actually delete the UV set...it will just be an empty set at that point. I wonder if you are using an older version of Maya maybe?
