Gurkha campaigners have condemned the call by a defence minister for Nepalese veterans settling in Britain to be "dispersed" around the country like asylum seekers.

Conservative MP Gerald Howarth said towns in his Aldershot constituency were suffering "very considerable burdens" as a result of a landmark decision allowing retired Gurkhas to settle in the UK.

A march planned in Aldershot to protest about the number of Gurkha families has now been was called off.

  • "we were born and bred in this town"......

Those guys served with blood for this country and werent as lucky to be born here, birth doesnt matter, the persons action do(i bet that women has done nothing of real value for the country, most i meet who speak like that aint). They dont know english, setup teaching system, not to hard to figure out.

  • We are a taxi company in Aldershot and Farnborough and we have many clients within the Nepalese community in Aldershot, Farnborough and nearby areas (Ash, Ash Vale, Tongham) We have not experienced any problems with Nepalese clients, in fact, the other day, coming from Farnborough on my way to Aldershot, i saw a group of senior citizens Nepalese on the side of the road (befrore Wellington park) and they were cleaning the area, maybe the govt could consider a programme for these new residents

  • I'm not one who is usually in favour of imigration but the Gurkha's have done something for this country and they should be allowed to stay here.

There is a lot of people in this country who I would gladly kick out but not these guys.

It's about time people recognised the difference between people coming here to sponge and those who done a great service for the country

  • @sprPee that's the exact problem. but foreigners who don't speak good english find strength in numbers and it's easier for them to settle in places where there are a lot of people from the same country. it would really help if people started moving to a different town, but it's easier for them to find work if they stay together. but they're being a little hard on gurkhas, considering indians have taken over lots of towns in london and they've done nothing for the country other than mooch off the

  • the gurkas are some of the finest troops serving our country they have every right live in the uk that mp clearly does not understand. it is disgusting how some people can be so racist at least gurkas serve our country

  • Asylum seekers are parasites. They are supposed to go to the nearest country where they can be safe but always seem to end up in the UK, sponging off the British taxpayer.

  • They should be encouraged to settle in more than one area, to ease the influx of people into an area which will otherwise if the influx of people is unchecked be economically damaged as a result.

Therefore the local population including the Nepalese old and new will suffer.
