From a 1965 TV appearance, here's Benny Golson leading a British all-star band, featuring Alan Branscombe on piano, Dave Goldberg on guitar and Tubby Hayes on tenor, with sterling support from Allan Ganley on drums. If this doesn't make you want to put on a happy face, check your pulse. Also visible in the clip are Jimmy Deuchar and Stan Roderick in the trumpets, Keith Christie and Ken Wray in the trombones and Don Honeywill and Frank Reidy in the reeds.

  • Good to be reminded of Alan Branscombe - hugely talented but beset with `health' problems.

  • i was very fortunate to be at this recording ,as the guest of don honeywill who is featured on bass clarinet and baritone sax ,don had taken me under his wing when i wanted to play clarinet at the tender age of ten .don also helped me when i eventually turned pro playing baritone /alto .he was a great musician and a really nice nice guy

  • I love this era of British jazz, it brings back such a good feeling especially whenTubby plays. BTW, I have no idea who my Dad was.
