Wreath Laying in the Garden of Remembrance. http://www.rte.ie/newsnow. Watch LIVE coverage on RTÉ News Now.

It was day that many people thought would never happen.

It was a moment that history was made. Queen Elizabeth II laid a wreath to honour those who fell in battle fighting for Irish freedom.

  • @RonainMacCathain Why would you say that? you've clearly got your head in the past, yes the British did terrible things thats a known fact, not just ireland country to others, however, so did Ireland, No country is perfect. Why make steps backwards when you can make steps forward to improve relations. After all holding a grudge doesn't get you anywhere.

  • @irishaware Careful what you insinuate when writing about Britain and slavery, the British were the first to put an end to it - more than 60 years before the USA (and without a civil war over the matter).

  • 1:41 - members of the golden circle that brought down this country...

  • The real issue is hypocrisy.

Would or should any other descendant of past dictators been applauded.

The Saxe Coburg and Gotha are a crime family syndicate.

Her money and palaces are on the proceeds of past crimes, including slavery.

Pathetic that people in ther 21st century do not see the reality.

  • God bless, Queen elizabeth the 2nd of england.

  • No it wont be no one cares

  • @puzz09 Subjective indignation might be understandable, but that's not how things are done! What about the african states? During the Empire, the Irish were also involved and an enormous number of Irish were slave traders within the colonial system (William Ronan, Antoine Walsh,Felix Doran, Christopher Butler, Thomas Ryan, James McGauley, David Tuohy, Philip Nagle, among many, many others)! Should the african countries never play the Irish Anthem, because of what happened in times past?

  • its one thing showing up to show respects but when the 'god save the queen' was played that was a disgrace them leaders died for irish freedom and were complete and pure nationalists and yet they have the right to sing god save the queen im ashamed........

  • @blazepheonix11 yes it is god save the queen and they did play it

  • @TheWhiterose1603 Very well said. God bless you
