Andrew Hennessey plays Starfish electric fiddle, Boss ME8 processor, Roland MC505 for the Irish folk tunes 'Ships are Sailing', 'The Kilavel Jig' and 'Follow me up to Carlow' .. These tunes are from the electric fiddle tunes collection called EPIC TARTAN -- FALLEN HEROES

Those causes may be lost or found, gone or replaced or even updated or superseded, but the melodies themselves survive the distortions of history and the 21st century era of rock and roll. The distortion, delay, reverb unit in the Boss ME8 -- often mimicks or alludes to in an electronic way the sound of the regional reed bagpipes.arrangements.
Processed distortion from an electronic source is akin to the medieval bagpipes and reed instrument sounds that made the bagpipe stand out as a weapon of war as well as a recreational instrument from Medieval times. Its edgy powerful sound recognised even to its 21st century banning from the Royal mile in Edinburgh.
The idea therefore is that traditions change and mutate utilising the available materials of the day setting new precedents and adaptations.
Electric fiddle arrangements with rock patches cannot always appeal to traditional purists, but then by taking a traditional genre and making an individual adaptation of it I am illustrating the real possibilities of the use of the fiddle - as a player of effects more so than tunes - as an instrument in folk rock and the traditional melodies in the era, medium and genre of the rock guitar and its synthesised instruments..

This electric fiddle technique in use uses no bow or plectrum, but pizzicato and mandolin chording and hammer-on, here it is played like a fretless mandolin also with slides

There are various electric and acoustic tunes to be found at http://www.reverbnation.com/scottishandrew.

There are though more arranged traditional tunes without rock patches on acoustic fiddle with guitars and keyboards and other trad instrumentation from myself to be found and you can hear some of those tracks at
