Factory show cars have a special place in the collector musclecar world, as these were built with the express purpose of highlighting a model at its fully-equipped best. As many options and features as possible were included to emphasize the newest innovations in style and design. Those that have made it through the intervening years are valuable indeed; this 1970 Dodge Charger R/T is one such car.

Built for the Chicago Auto Show, this R/T is still equipped with its all matching number "V" Code 440 Six Pack engine and driveline. As one would expect, it is chock-full of contemporary options, a couple of which are exceedingly rare. Power steering and disc brakes, power windows, Rally Gauges and a center console nicely filled out the interior appointments, but Dodge took it two steps further. Leather 6-way bucket seats were a virtually Imperial-style luxury item, but even they were trumped by the ultra rare power Sun Roof!

This gorgeous R/T is more than rare: it is a highly documented piece of Mopar history, backed by the original factory broadcast sheet and original fender tag, and entered in the Chrysler Registry by Galen Govier. One of 159 440 Six-Pack Chargers built in 1970, and the only one for the Chicago Auto Show, this is a one-off Chrysler milestone.

  • I owned one of these, not the "showcar" like this one but a 1970 Dodge Charger R/T 440 6-pack (Holley 2300), Chrysler Burnt Orange, Dana 60 rear axle, 4 speed manual, Mallory dual point distributor. I thought there were far more than 149 of these made. I did not have power windows or the sunroof, and I did not have whatever that is on the trunk. I put 50,000 miles on it, finally gave it away (!) in 1984, I was sick and tired of working on it all the time. I still have the keys and manual.

  • @iplayveryloud This is one of the few that actually had that as an original option. Taking it off wouldn't devalue the car, but it takes away from how unique it is. I just hope its a daily driver. Can't stand to see these on trailers.

  • Wow that grocery racked ruined that car.

  • Hey Johnny, I have to agree with Johnny I own 932 witch made mine the first 1 built there was a story years ago about the the Chicago 6 Chargers that were all built the same for the 1970 auto show why the other 4 wernt mentioned in the story I dont know.

  • The thing on the trunk was an optional luggage rack which is rare on chargers.

  • This is 933, I own 934. 933 is actually one of 10 cars (that I've found so far) all made exactly the same (options/engines/colors), starting with 932 and ending with 942 (all with sequential VINs and VONs). Calling 933 a one off is a selling point to say the least (also a bit of lie), but calling it rare is more in line with the truth. It is possibly the only one with a 2nd tag (show car) out of the 10 though.

  • Excellent and sharp!!

  • this car is so sexy omfg!

  • Check out this 1970 Challenger 440 six pack

  • Same car was my first car (except with a 318 that I changed to a 440 magnum). I almost "pleasured myself" watching this. My second car was a '69 Road Runner (Hemi Orange with a functional Air-Grabber hood). Ahhh.... my youth. Now it's the SUV and 3 kids.
