The AFI DALLAS International Film Festival, Presented by Target, Founding Sponsor Victory Park, a new and exciting annual international film festival was held March 22 through April 1, 2007. The comprehensive programming highlighted contemporary international features, documentaries and short films, and included red-carpet galas, educational panels, masterclasses and conversations with some 75 filmmakers. In its inaugural year, AFI DALLAS became one of the largest film festivals in the Southwest—presenting 193 films from 25 countries viewed by over 30,000 attendees.

With Victory Park as its epicenter, other venues included the historic Majestic Theatre, Landmark's Magnolia and Inwood Theatres, Angelika Film Center, AMC NorthPark 15 and the Victory Media Network, as well as the Dallas Museum of Art, the Crow Collection of Asian Art, the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, the Booker T. Washington Arts Magnet High School, SMU's Meadows School of the Arts, TCU, the W Dallas Victory and Neiman Marcus.

The AFI DALLAS Star Award was presented to screen legend Lauren Bacall; to Academy Award winners Sydney Pollack, Marvin Hamlisch, Marilyn and Alan Bergman; to David Lynch (Inland Empire) and Sarah Polley (Away From Her) who screened their latest films; and to Veronique Peck to honor the memory of her husband Gregory.

Throughout the Festival, Dallas was full of small dinners, big receptions and even bigger parties presented by AFI DALLAS, the local film community and producers. The Festival's Target Filmmaker Lounge was full of both professionals and aficionados talking about the movies. Other filmmakers in attendance included Morgan Freeman, Bill Paxton, Todd Wagner, Brad Silberling, Jane Seymour, Joe Pantoliano, Ron Livingston, Melissa George, Nick Stahl, Ricki Lake, Janine Turner, Frances Fisher, Robert Loggia, Lou Diamond Phillips and Jason Mewes.

We are deep into planning for AFI DALLAS 2008. It's even more ambitious: delivering 225 to 250 screenings, an expanded presence at Victory Park and more educational programs. We are currently pursuing major filmmakers and Hollywood luminaries to attend this year's Festival. In addition to actors, directors and composers, we will be featuring other cinematic artists like screenwriters, cinematographers, art directors, costume designers, composers, and film editors—truly celebrating the art of film.

The 2008 AFI DALLAS International Film Festival Presented by Target, Founding Sponsor Victory Park, will be presented March 27 through April 6.
