A clip from an extended sled run at Hankock, New York on a beautiful spring late afternoon. The lift is light and smooth, a real glass-off. Maine Dave could hang in there in his Atos, but my WW Eagle (and my H2 skills) couldn't quite stay up. You can hear me talking to Dave on the radio. Last I'd seen he was at my altitude and when I turned toward the sun I figured I'd better call him. He'd gone across the gap and to the next ridge.

The LZ is across the East Branch of the Deleware River in the clearing in the bend in the river. The video stops with the camera pointed at the LZ. I was too chicken to keep the camera running during I made my approach and landing. ;-)

  • ...i assumed you turned right before the

shadowed gap to avoid venturi and/or

sink. I hope to fly a ridge for 1st time

    later this year.

  • The wind was very light so venturi was not a problem. The lift zone was concentrated in front of the ridge, a light thermal was felt in that gap early in the flight but it wasnt strong enough to climb in. Ridge soaring is a great way to build airtime and confidence. Good luck!

They run the best hang gliding school on the East Coast and their training hill is about an hour north of New York City. Chris McGuiness the flight school manager will get you started in Hang Gliding right.
