The Square Kilometre Array (SKA) promises to revolutionise science by answering some of the most fundamental questions that remain about the origin, nature and evolution of the universe. With about 3 000 receptors linked together and a total collecting area of one square kilometre, the SKA will have 50 times the sensitivity and 10 000 times the survey speed of the best current-day radio telescopes.

@mo9833706 Everyone knows the SKA is going to be built in Australia
Australia has a long and distinguished history in radio astronomy, is much more radio quiet, offers a longer baseline when extended out to New Zealand (5,500 km vs 3,000) and above all is a politically stable, highly developed and extremely wealthy single continent nation, and not a patchwork of corrupt and backward marginal nations like Namibia, Botswana and the eight other African nations that are part of SA's bid.
