I thought this was about his dog. Wow.

got a chance to catch him live a couple of times (once in a night club with about 75 in the crowd). Watched an interview where he talked about his longevity, and he said we was amazed to see grandparents taking children, taking grandchildren to his shows. But after 19 platinum albums and how many gold singles (written and sung)......

I grew up listening to Neil also as my father played his albums. My father was an unhappy soul but listening to Neil made him whistle and hum. These are my favorite memories of my father. He passed away in 2000. I saw Neil in concert in Illinois after my father passed away and when I heard Neil sing it sent chills throughout my body.... and it was magical. I felt my father's presence and I sat and bawled during the concert. It was one of the best times in my life.

the way he sung sung this was how frank sinatra sung the best has yet to come
I was born in 1988. My father was born 1966. My dad was always a big fan of Neil Diamond and was brought up listening to him. I remember being about 7 with a guitar wishing I could play the background tune because i knew every ward to this song and used to sing it all the time to be like him. He taught me what music was and what life was about. He died at 41 in 2007. It gives me great pride when I listen to Neil and cant name a bad song he wrote and sung. R.I.P DAD and long live Neil Diamond

I saw Neil last night, it was sensational! I always thought that Shilo was his imaginary friend and that the girl with fire was his first love as he grew up.. I felt that he called to Shilo his childhood companion to help heal his broken heart at the end. I love this song.
Only my interpretation!
