I don't know how it is compared to the Sanyo. I returned the SD5 because of a problem with noise on the audio. I am now a happy owner of a Canon HF10. And it is in my opinion much better than the SD5. The canon supports progressive scan and is way better in low light.

And to find Voltaic you need google or go to shedworx and that nice dot and a traditional com...

You don't have to look further than iMovie or Final Cut Express. If you don't have an intel mac you need Voltaic to convert the videos first.

Could you tell me if you can view the LCD screen in bright sunlight outdoors?

It does only 25 FPS! on 1920 x 1080 resolution! And yes, interleaced! That's the best it can do. So moving objects and camera pan doesn't look smooth. Camera native AVCHD format still uncommon in video players and editors. Included HD Writer software for windows plain sucks, like a cheap and dirty hack. It allows exporting recorded 1920x1080 AVCHD into 720x576 MPG as its best. I think class action suit is appropriate for misadvertisement.
