A song I wrote in the 1960's tracing the life of a miner against a background of pit closures.
The singer here is Bob Fox from his CD 'The Blast' on Topic Records - many thanks to Tony Engle MD Topic Records.
Bob Fox is one of Durham's finest folksinging exports. I wish I could say that I have taught him everthing he knows but that would not be true!
This song is in 'The Ed Pickford Songbook'.

I used to do the song defiantly – so that’s another way of doing it – maybe it is versatile!
I think the structure has been used to make it into a drama.

i think its time that all these songs that ed done where put on one cd i would be the first to buy it ive went out of me way to listen to the stuff hes knocked out and its top notch from a gratefull stanley lad
