Sel: *puts her arms around his neck and kisses him*

Nick: *shocked, wraps his arms around her*

Sel: *pulls away slowly*

Nick: *looks at her* what was that for?

Sel: *shrugs, teasingly* well, mostly, it was to get you to shut up.

Nick: *smiles cheekily* you know, I suddenly have a lot to say... *raises an eyebrow at her* wanna cut in?

Sel: *grins at him, gently hits his arm as she un-wraps her arms from around his neck* funny guy!

Nick: I know *sits back down, taking a sip out of his cup* so where do you wanna sleep tonight? My room?

Sel: *walks over and drinks some of hers* you sure thats ok?

Nick: *nods* yeah, course it is. Plus, we could both use the company.

Sel: *yawns* thanks, Nick. Im gonna head upstairs now, anyway *gets up and heads towards the door*

Nick: Ill be up in a minute *takes both their finished cups and washes them up before following her upstairs*

*next day*

Sel: *wakes up lying in Nicks arms on his bed. She smiles as she enjoys the moment before her mind turns back to Jake. Her smile became a frown quickly. Her eyes stung with heartbroken tears and the pain of rejection flooded through her body*

Nick: *wakes up and feels her hold on him grow tighter, lost in her own world of thoughts* whats wrong?

Sel: *looks up at him, startled* nothing...

Nick: *Raises his eyebrows* really? Then could you loosen your grip on my t-shirt? Youre pinching my skin.

Sel: *She releases his shirt, taking a few deep breaths trying to calm herself down* sorry.

Nick: *moves his hand to stoke her hair* Sel, hell come back. Believe me.

Sel: *her heart felt like it weighed a thousand tonnes. Her mind began to panic* Nick, hes been gone for the whole night. Anything couldve happened to him.

Nick: Hes a strong and brave boy. Hell be fine until he comes home.

Sel: *worried* Hes never had to look after himself before... hes got no money, no food or drink, no shelter... hes got nothing. What the hell is he gonna do?

Nick: *calmly moves his hand and caresses her cheek* the same thing you did; hes gonna look after himself and make the best of what hes got.

Sel: *looks up at Nick* how are you so positive about everything? Youve been through the worst but you always look up.

Nick: *smiles at her* im only positive when i need to be or when im happy, and right now im ecstatic; so lucky you.

Sel: *teasing him* we both know im the one who made you happy *winks a him*

Nick: *Chuckles and kisses the top of her head* youre not wrong there.

Sel: *smiles and closes her eyes, sinking back into her own mind*

Nick: Not everything that you go through is gonna end terribly, Sel. Jake will find a way to come back, ok? Hell find a reason to.

Sel: *opens her eyes, staring blankly ahead at the wall. She moved her head so her chin was supporting her face on Nicks chest* Nick, my luck in life has been crap; my dad, my mum, Jake, scars, pain... nothing for me is ever gonna end right. Thats not my choice, its just the way my life works.

Nick: *watches her as she stares ahead, seeming so peaceful but breaking inside* you wont know that for sure until life ends, Sel. You can never be sure of whats going to happen next. Thats just what makes everything so much more interesting. Nothing is ever what it seems, we both know that, Selly.

Sel: *looks up at him* Nick... do you ever think that maybe you could realise how plain and boring i am?

Nick: *shakes his head, looking down at her* nope, i cant see something that isnt there.

Sel: *sits up* Well, you cant see hate and love, but they are real.

Nick: *leans forward towards her* Yes, THEY are real. You being plain and boring is nowhere near the truth. You experience hate and love, knowing its there. But there is nothing about you thats plain or boring; thats one of the things i love about you.

Sel: *smiles at him* what else do you love about me then?

Nick: *edges closer to her* theres a long list...

Sel: *smiles as she watches him move towards her slowly and she leans in* Id love to hear it...

Nick: *gently kisses her, his hand on the back of her neck*

Sel: *kisses back, slowly pulls away after a few seconds*

Nick: *takes his hand away from her neck* youre eyes...

Sel: *confused* my eyes?

Nick: *chuckles* theyre part of the reason i love you, too.
