Come to the Fair
Performed by the SPCC Mixed Choir

Written By: Helen Taylor
Music By: Easthope Martin

The sun is a-shining to welcome the day,
Heigh ho, come to the fair,
The folk are all singing so merry and gay,
Heigh ho, come to the fair.

All the stalls on the green are as fine as can be,
With trinkets and tokens so pretty to see,
So it's come, then, maidens and men
To the fair in the pride of the morning.

So deck yourselves out in your finest array,
With a heigh ho, come to the fair.

The fiddles are playing the tune that you know,
Heigh ho, come to the fair,
The drums are all beating away let us go,
Heigh ho, come to the fair.

There'll be racing and chasing from morning till night,
And round-a-bouts turning to left and to right,
So it's come, then, maidens and men,
To the fair in the pride of the morning.

So lock up your house, there'll be plenty of fun,
And it's heigh ho, come to the fair.

For love making too, if so be you've a mind,
Heigh ho, come to the fair,
For hearts that are happy are loving and kind,
Heigh ho, come to the fair.

If haste to the wedding the fiddles should play,
I warrant you'll dance to the end of the day,
Come, then, maidens and men,
To the fair in the pride of the morning.

The sun is a-shining to welcome the day,
With a heigh ho, come to the fair,
Maidens and men,
Maidens and men,
Come to the fair in the morning,
Heigh ho, come to the fair.

  • My grandma was singing this today. So i thought "Heck, I'll learn it and we can sing it together!!!!"

HEY HOE! COME TO THE FAIR!

  • :)

  • My mom used to sing this to me over 60 years ago.

  • I sang this song in the local music festival with selected others in our public school back in the late 50's, early 60's. WOW!! That was 50 years ago. I could still sing along with the melody after this absence! Thanks.

  • they're pronouncing the 'heigh' wrong. they're singing 'hey ho' instead of 'hi ho'. it's nice, but i prefer the solo version of it

  • Great song. Helen Taylor also wrote

    "Bless This House".

Used to sing this in High School Chorus half

a century ago. We didn't do quite so well

as the SPCC. (Some Place Concert Choir?)

    Tx 4 posting.

  • Singing this song for my jury next month. It's a cute song!! Except my version says "heigh ho, come to the fair"...not whatever they are saying.

  • Great song, excellent performance. Many happy memories. Thank you.

  • We sung this in our university choir its amazingly fun to sing! Love it!!!

  • the balce is a bit off. it is hard to distinguish the melody.
