Performed by Mike Massé, Scott Slusher, and Ken Benson on 3/22/10 at the Pie Pizzeria in Salt Lake City, Utah. This is the first video to feature my new Guild F-512 12-string.

This song was hard for me because: 1) I'm a terrible fingerpicker, 2) It's especially hard (for me, at least) to fingerpick on a 12-string, and 3) It's even harder to sing and play this song at the same time. So please bear all that in mind when watching/listening, and be kind! :)

Scott Slusher and Ken Benson were in a band with me in high school, so they drove out from CO for this little reunion gig. It was fun, but a bit rough around the edges, since we only had the weekend to rehearse.

  • great set! just curious how does your drummer get the vocal effects at the end? digitech vocal pedal?

  • @madwolfboy Actually the drummer and the keyboard player are both singing together, so I panned the vocals left and right to give it a bigger sound.

  • Mike, you can play that ALONE, nobody else NEEDED

  • @gibsonizer229 I suppose, but I think the harmonies add a lot. And without the viola solo, the song just sorta slumps in the middle. I guess I could have done the solo on a kazoo or something. :) Besides, it was super fun to play with Scott and Ken, so I wouldn't change a thing!

  • Dude....finally you have the 12-strings guitar...now, can you play Hotel California for us??? i'm really anxious for that!

  • @pbrocchi If we do it, it'll probably be in July or August. My guitar is being sent back to Guild for a replacement, which won't show up until late May/early June. Long story, but I'm getting a brand new replacement, so that should be fun.

  • Are you guys Mormons? I've never met a Mormon who couldn't sing

  • WEAK applause. That was a fantastic!

  • Just want to say you are an inspiration. I love playing acoustic covers and you give me and everyone else that does this kind of stuff a really high bar to try and reach. Keep on keeping on.

  • You should quit your day job ;)

  • I don't mean any disrespect but i don't think Kansas themselves would perform this so perfect.

    Excellent work.

p.s. I'd love to see hotel california as well.

  • I love that Jeff is just sitting there hanging out, presumably watch the TV. ;-)

  • @mikemassedotcom You definitely don't need it! :D

  • I just NOW found this one. Thank you so much for doing this song.

  • Hi Mike,

    Greate job as allways,

    Dave

  • I like his "You're welcome" smile in the end of each song :)
