Lake Michigan Raft.m4v

Back in the summer 1962, Bob Taft (high school) built this wooden raft on two 200 gallon drums. Dad took the film of our launch there in Highland Park, IL.The wind was from the west, it tacked well, but continued on its westerly direction towards Michigan. When we realize that sailing back to the Illinois shoreline was no longer an option, Dave and I swam the 1.5 miles to shore only to see the sail boat and remaining crew being towed back. Both jeff and Bob helped themselves to the cold contents of the cooler (strapped to the mast for safety) on the pleasant ride back and very little was left for either dave or I. Bob's Mom made him dismantle the sail boat. - Chip
