BONSAI-EASY NEW METHOD-PART 13-FICUS PRUNING

THIS IS A PRUNING OF A RATHER OVERGROWN FICUS (FIG) TREE. THIS IS FICUS BENJAMINA, OR THE WEEPING FICUS. THIS ONE HAD NOT BEEN EXAMINED IN ABOUT A YEAR. GETTING IT OUT OF THE POT WAS A SLIGHT PROBLEM AS IT IS A COMMERCIAL POT AND HAS AN INTERNAL LIP. BUT BEING THAT THE GROWTH MEDIUM IS SPHAGNUM MOSS, IT COMES OUT RELATIVELY EASILY, WHEREAS HAD THIS BEEN IN SOIL, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A CRUMBLING MESS. FICUS TREES CAN DEVELOP FIGS, WHICH I HAVE HAD HAPPEN OCCASSIONALLY. THEY ARE HEARTY GROWERS, AND THOUGH FULL SUN IS SUGGESTED, THEY DO WELL AS HOUSEPLANTS, AND MINE DO FINE UNDER THE SHADE OF A LARGE OAK. THIS ONE NEEDED A MAJOR PRUNING, WHICH IT GOT.(***PLEASE VIEW PART 12 ABOUT THE WARNING ON HANDLING SPHAGNUM MOSS BEFORE YOU WORK WITH SPHAGNUM MOSS***).

DUH , WERE WE SUPPOSED TO LEARN ANYTHING HERE OR WAS ALLEGED PLANT HUMOR . ALL THAT CUTTING AND NOT ONCE DID HE SHARE EXACTLY WHERE TO CUT/DIRECTION/SPECIFIC LIMB-BRANCH AND REASON. iM ONLINE TRYING TO LEARN HOW , AS THIS WAS LISTED UNDER , BUT I AM SO GLAD HE LIKES THE SHAPE HE ENDED UP WITH ! AND AS MOST OF THESE INSTRUCTIONAL TREE PRUNING VIDEOS , ITS SO DARK YOU CANT SEE THE TREE MORE THAN ITS DARK OUTLINE . WHATa waste of time , for me at least.

this man dosent understand the rules of bonsai... it looked much better until he chopped of the poor things head... leaning informal uprights are suppoed to have more branches on top than on the bottom.... but he cut the tops off and made it ugly. whatever, its his plant.... but its ugly now.

Reduce leaf size by defoliating (cutting off all the leaves in late spring. New leaves will come in smaller. If you are afraid to take off all the leaves, just cut off all the large ones and leave the smaller ones.
