This is our series of usability speed tests as performed on the Palm Pre. If anyone wants to try these tests themselves, for details, see: http://pocketnow.com/thought/race-my-treo-usability-speed-tests-with-the-treo...

We encourage you to post video responses of you performing these tests on your own smartphone device... especially if you can do them faster than us.

  • so much hate! the thing with us iphone lovers is that we never give any other phones a chance, and notice i say us and we. i love iphone but you have to admit that this phone does things that the iphone cant do. you also have to realize that the is a 1st gen phone and the iphone is a 3rd gen, so give the phone a chance to catch up.

  • the only reason why people say that winmo is slow is because they are retards that dont know how to close apps! also you cant do any thing on the iphone due to its lack of multi tasking!

  • This guy types like a retard and doesnt even know how to select something

  • My iPhone is 100% full and runs like it did the day I bought it. Thats one of the benefits of not running pointless apps in the background when you can only view one on the screen at a time anyway.

  • Haha yeah i just followed along with my 3gs and smoked him on all the tests. LOL so much for Pre being the iPhone killer... hows that multitasking improving productivity for ya?

  • My 2nd one is breaking down now lol. for some odd reason it's starting to re-boot itself every 2 days... another new one! haha yay (very soon! ) I've been with Sprint since 2004 and it hasn't failed for me at all so I'm stickin with it. Luckily i'm paying for insurance which i dont think it's to much, i think its only like $6 a month which i think is definitly worth it because usually my phones always break after the 1st year through my contract.

  • Hey thanks for the reply! I decided to get my pre a couple of weeks ago and so far I love it. Especially the new Sprint plan they got with unlimited everything for $70. Yeah I had the same problem with the built quality. I had replace mine twice! 1st one had a faulty slider and the second one would turn off whenever I answer a call which was weird. But now Im crossing my fingers this one lasts me a long time because I dont have the insurance lol. How many years have you been with Sprint?

  • I found a way to get internet while i'm on roaming for the pre, which in your contract it only lets you get about 300mb over roaming but tbh that's good enough for me jsut cause i'm rarely on roaming.

  • I like the Pre! it works really good. though it is my 2nd cause the last one actually had some sliding problems but Sprint replaced it free of charge and just exchanged it for a newer one! and yea it was even more new! it had a diffrent middle button than the last one i had but works faster as my last one. (i got the very 1st pre when it came out June 6th though =P) I've always been with sprint so i can't really compare it to other services but it works for me.

  • Sarcasm?

That was much more effort than it should have been for several of those tasks. My iPhone does a better job, but still not as well as it should.

Those screen transitions were not very smooth, either.

  • How much do you like your Pre? I'm thinking about switching to Sprint and buying a Pre by the end of the week. :D
