hahahaha....He is a funny bugga...The Church are the Best Australian Band..by a longshot..shame they had to go overseas to be recognised!!..Well..they have been now..at last.. Congratulations Steve,Peter,Marty..Tim & of course..Richard...What a wonderful sense of humour..he he...:)
@mistersmith6000 - It's not like the "enigmatic, aloof" aura of The Church/Steve Kilbey was something that we all became used to from familiarity. The Church only had three singles that reached the top twenty in nearly three decades and without the inclusion of one of those three on almost every "Get it for dad/ Buy it for Australia Day Oz Rock Compilation" most punters would be as familiar with Steve Kilbey and The Church as they are with Richard Ploog.Gre3at speech !
This is weird...I preferred the enigmatic to 'hey kids, this is the zoo' but I guess they are being more real, and I'm getting old too. But saying he felt sorry for brits, because of the great aussie music? Lucky half - if not more - of those bands he mentioned were ten pound poms, as he also is.
Steve Kilbey at the ARIA Hall of Fame induction, October 27"I haven't got a speech," Kilbey said as The Church took the stage to accept their honour, before revealing hitherto unknown comedic skills and giving the speech of the year, off the cuff. "For 30 years we've cultivated an image as mysterious and enigmatic," fellow Church member Marty Willson-Piper observed, "and he's blown that in 15 minutes."
I really love the Stone Roses... but being a west ozzie girlie, The Church were like 'my Baptism' of a certain beauty in sound.... pretty sounds from 1982 helps a soul blossom to enjoy even more xxxx

@beepo11en I think he mentioned he had had a few drinks knowing he had to make this speech. I know he's normally not a drinker.
