A government panel now recommends that women shouldn't receive their first mammogram until age fifty - ten years later than previously stated. Dr. Mahmoud B. El-Tamar of New York Presbyterian/Columbia discusses the guidelines.

  • I agree with you, these guidelines are particularly damning for the Democrats new health care bill. This ideal of cheap health care is just silly and will have consequences. If we want a real quality universal health care system in this country we need to be willing to pay for the best. Apparently this new bill is going to LOWER the deficit? Reports like this reveal exactly how this will be done, it looks like rationing to me.

  • The timing is in line with government paid healthcare. Insurance companies can now avoid coverage for mammograms using the government guidelines. Early detection will now not be possible until too late. He said it is about saving money, and kept asking is it worth it? Well if you are the many still alive from early detection of cancer, it was very much worth it. It is cheaper for you to have cancer for 15 years then detect it at 50? The mortality rate will be the same as no care at all.
