They were using the joke and the word but didn't include her point, which is what disturbs me and those of you who don't understand what I mean about Richard Pryor, then you didn't hear what he said about that word in his last few shows. And if you are a comedian and you go on stage and no one laughs, then it isn't a good thing. Pryor talked about the word, like George Carlin, he studied words. Look up Richard Pryor On the "N" word on youtube.

@azmildman . Dont understand the comparison with Richard Pyor. He was a one of a kind comic genius that spawned a million imitators and also a fine comic movie actor. Whoopi Goldberg churns out the usual run-of-the-mill 'Im black you're white' jokes that everyone else does and starrred in sister act 1 and 2 and that crap with Ted Danson.
who cares if the audience were laughing ??.......Hitler got a lot of applause at The Nuremberg Rally.....by your reasoning he mustve been pretty cool !

@DonkeyMagnet99 This is what happens when someone takes a 30 second snippet from an act and focuses on the least attractive part. Richard Pryor's early albums included one title which was "Twentieth Century Nigger". This was the ultimate diasection of her act. She is funny, although this one snippet was part of something that a lot of black people obviously hadn't heard before. THEY WERE LAUGHING! This was tailored for THAT AUDIENCE that day.

?
Yawn !!
In no way is this funny at all, just plain old boring, tired, unfunny, typical tired old, heard them a million times before 'black' jokes from yet another unoriginal black comedian in a long line of unoriginal black comedians telling the same tired old 'black' jokes.
Boring, boring, boring, unfunny, unfunny
Dave Chapelle is one who stands out among a tiny handful of original, genuinely hilarious black American comedians.
(And I'm black before you accuse me of being racist)

The genius is the simplicity, regardless of the connotation. You need to see what she has to say after the joke to really understand the point.

Yes, words ARE how we communicate but more importantlyy, we get to choose what is communicated. We need to also be terribly careful that we are responsible for what we express as there are always consequences. People have taken their "free speech" liberties to an arrogant extreme. Just because you CAN say whatever you want doesn't mean you necessariy should. You might be able to drink poison. It may be your "right", but why would you if you knew the damage it would cause. Words are no different.

I totally disagree. There are no words that can't be used. The history of a word is inconsequential. If you know a sound that is better at illustrating your thought than another sound you should use it. This is how we communicate.

ok...first of all you miss quoted me. i didn't say anything or anybody was dumb. "Progress CAN'T look back! " wrong. you have to look back to see the mistakes and fix them, or you are gonna repeat them. the way you are responding shows that you are very angry about something. i tell you what....write your local congressman about whoopies joke. relax, use that energy for a higher cause.

Right! Babies created "ga-ga goo-goo" because of the brilliance behind the concept of such an utterance. And all the BRILLIANT minds who created the word "nigger" did so in the hopes that it would stay! YOu know, for even saying that there was some kind of intellect behind anything like that deserves a few slaps on your face. Life IS too short! This is dumb to fight about, which is why I am SO passionate that we can't move on and are STILL using such terrible words. Progress CAN'T look back!
Hey guys try mtiffany71's version, it's longer. my battery gave up while recording, that's why her last comment isn't on it
