Red and Blue Halo Around the Moon as Mars Watches Close By 9/3/09

In late August and early September 2009, Mars was apparently as close to the Moon as it will be for another 60,000 years. Here I captured the Moon with a glowing red halo around it, with Mars close at hand, on September 3rd. I was in Highland Lakes, NJ at the time.

Great video! I saw one of these yesterday! I am only 10 years old and I really wanted to see one and then I saw one yesterday! It was really cool to see one for the first time! The next ring around the moon will be on Feb-18-2011! =D

yea i saw a halo around the moon in Maryland a few nights ago, thats why i looked this up, strange but there was probably moiesture in the air because it did rain that night and the light reflecting off the moon maybe caused the rainbow effect as if it was the sun and a water hose? im no astronomer but thats my guess
