The first piece of advice if you're purchasing a timeshare is to make sure you don't believe everything you hear, either negative or positive, about timeshares. Maybe you have a family member who tells you not to buy a timeshare because you'll never be able to trade for better locations, or a salesperson promising you if you buy you'll always be able to trade for any location. The person advising you against it might have had a timeshare in a bad location, and the salesperson might be trying to hustle you to unload a less than desirable location... just make sure you are informed and don't just listen to what one person has to say about your purchase. And that leads us to our next tip... always do your homework, which I'll tell you about next time.
