Roseanne S5 Ep19 It's A Boy pt1

David's parents are moving to Chicago, and David does not want to join them. Darlene asks if David can move in with them, but Roseanne and Dan declare it out of the question. Roseanne later learns that David was planning to run away, so she met his mother, who came off as mean and drunk. She treated David poorly, forcing Roseanne to change her mind and allow David to move in with them.

Well, it really depends on the person. Some people in this situation will act out, and since they believe they are no good at anything, they won't bother. Others act to avoid punishment and get praise. I think David doesn't want to upset his mum, who will probably horribly abuse him if he does anything wrong. And the fact that he probably already feels he's no good at anything leads him to want people to like him even more. I'm not an expert or anything; this is just a guess.

Great acting from David's mother. She actually made you hate her for those brief minutes she was in the episode, and that's what makes an actor talented.
