Although the 5th recorded John Phillips' "Go Where You Wanna Go" early in their career, and were obviously influenced by what came before them, their sound was all their own. Billy Davis, Jr. was an r & b singer mostly: his sound was unique and strong, gospel-ish. No one put the 5th together: they were friends who came together to sing--just like the Mamas & the Papas. The rest of this stuff about "black" and "white" is ridiculous. Marilyn McCoo, Mama Cass--these are GREAT singers. That's all.

This takes me back to age 8, growing up in L.A. Great times back then! NO other state has inspired more songs, vehicle names; Chevy Malibu, Bel Air, Tahoe, Pontiac Catalina, Ventura, Ferrari CALIFORNIA, Ford Mustang CALIFORNIA Special. To quote a Tenna Marie song (R.I.P. Vanilla Child) Where's California? What happened to MY California?

Fuck these fucking commercials.

@swaggaboi20 I AGREE WITH YOU!
I heard this song the other day on the "60's on 6" Channel on Sirius Satellite Radio whilst driving up Crenshaw Blvd through Leimert Park, Los Angeles CA on a blue-sky warm day about 4PM. I just WOW, eargasmed at the traffic light at Vernon Avenue.
