I do not know if Mr Kaufmann composed the tune, but for sure, it was played on violin by Pandit VG Jog. Since 1938, Akashvani has been playing it as its signature tune.
Walter Kaufmann was composer of the signature tune of AKASHBANI or AIR in the year 1938. Mr Kaufmann deperted for the HEAVENLY ABODE only in the year of 1984.so there is no confusion with great Mr RAVI SHANKAR, who composed the stgnature tune of DOORDARSHAN, the official INDIAN TELEVISION.
Reminds me of old days in the UK when we used to tune in to AIR for hindi songs.
