On Thursday, October 6, Sorenson Communications was allowed to hold an assembly to advertise their new product, the "NTouch" to the faculty and students of the Middle and High School Departments. In this vlog, I question why this commercial use of school time was allowed.

  • The school went on a field trip to Convo headquarters where they were exposed to Convo stuff. It doesn't matter how similar or differently they were exposed to the such in comparison to Sorenson's. Circumstances surrounding both may or not be different but the bottom line remains the same in form of exposure. Double standards. FCC needs to clamp down on marketing in schools whatever it takes such as field trips. Convo and Sorenson in addition to others need to be subjected to better standards.

  • @deafactive A field trip is fine, if the school set it up, without the company asking, so the kids can learn how they operate. But a direct marketing pitch intended to SELL their product and MAKE MONEY off the kids.... that's what I have a problem with.

  • I understand everything what you said. I wonder, have Apple Computer came to public school to sell their new product, iPod or someting like that? No, I don't think so. Perhaps Sorenson was thinking, maybe those deaf kids don't need education so decided to give the presentation about their new products???? If so, it would be shameful way to belittle those deaf kids. I think you made a good argument here.

  • @rachadw If it was Apple, at least that has educational applications (I don't know about Ipod for Deaf, though).

  • I und your point...however, It is possible that Sorenson's new innovative product may enhance the ease and efficiency of communication for students and staff.

  • @ishairo But there was NO attempt to even TRY to spin this as "educational" in any way. It was pure marketing.

  • FYI...seems vps in school dorms are usually Sorenson...schools like the free equipment provided. Good revenue there.

  • @423Grace Oh I'm sure the kids could figure the technology part out. They were born into a technological age, trust me I know... I am young and I was born into it too. This sounds like pure marketing to me! Sorenson has had a lot of competition in the past few years!

  • Just to let you know... I love all of your vlogs =)

  • I think you missed the point.. Understanding how the product works gives the students the abilitity to be independent. They can learn to stand up for themselves on how to call vrs for services they need. It doesnt always mean it has to be purely educational stuff in school.. it also means what is out there.. they LEARN about the product. That in itself is an education..

  • CSD is in capitalism country that lets marketing to make profit and doesn't care measure of hearing by audiology because there no socialism nor communist.

  • School is not just about books. It's about educating people the innovation of technology and also to show Deaf students who may not have a vp at home . It would enhance a better lifestyle and to empower themselves to reality. It's not a waste of time for staffs as well.I must say that your vlog is absolutely sad to blindfold young Deaf generations to understand the new innovations. I disagree with your opinions.

  • Conflict of Interest! Dr. Sean Virnig should know better.
