The animation quality... I think it's mainly because PoE is a free to play game from a small group of developers consist of less then thirty people, while D3 is from a money monster called Blizzard.

and this makes it far far more enjoyable as u got some integrity behind the game and the real want to create fun for the people, instead of the company money making force behind it.

it's the same with supreme commander forged alliance forever vs starcraft 2.

sup com has now it's own comunity based server up with patches and changes decided by the comunity.

in a lot of the big companies a game loses specialty and uniquness and craziness like world of goo and fez.

The genre is not defined by the type of developer, but by the gameplay itself.

I was talking about the difference between a huge company versus a small indie company. Blizzard makes tons of money for all of their games, who has heard of Grinding Gear Games before PoE?

The complexity of the gameplay depends on your build. Also how far did you get? Playing on merciless is very different to playing on normal. It is relatively simple to get away from monsters, use movement abilities (whirling blade, lightning warp) or a quick silver flask.

When you look at a game of chess, all you see is two people moving around a collection of pieces. Obviously there is a lot more depth that is invisible to the untrained viewer.

Actually they're exactly the same genre. They're loot based action RPGs, both are inspired by Diablo 2. In fact along with with TL2, they're probably the most similar games to each other.

I'm afraid I have to agree with this post. I didn't play much in parties, but for solo play, there are like 3 to 5 different things you can do at any time. Any and all attempts to use positioning are wasted, since 90% of the monsters are faster than you are, or near as fast. Running away also causes them to desync and you don't even know what's where at that point.

PoE's character customisation and itemization are great, but the gameplay is very simple in the end.
