Gassers (I was really into the Willys coupes!), Early Funny Cars, some Stockers, Rails, and more, taken when I was just a kid. Most are from the NHRA Nationals in Indy, some from Great Lakes Dragway, and from US 131 in Martin, Michigan. The Hemi Under Glass is a hand-out, not an original photo.

  • Thanks for your comments on my video. I can't tell you how many model cars I made after seeing the real thing at the drag strip. I still have some of the ones I made back then (thanks Mom!).

  • you took good shots mate, some never seen before, you did well for a young kid back then with a camera, and check that sling shot resting its front wheels on x 2 fuel/gerry cans?? just simple, elegant and safe a far as im concerned, great days and racing.

  • @barnfresh60 Those were simpler times, when it cost five bucks (with pit pass) to see some of the biggest names in the sport. Thanks for your kind comments.

  • good stuff brother, thanks for the post.

  • Thanks for sharing these great shots, I have not seen many of these.

  • I saw the Ford Comet (GOLDFENDER) run at the Grand Bend Dragstrip in 1965. It was impressive at the time. It was billed as a Ford factory experimental car. I went home from the day at the drags and painted my CCM bike the same colour as Goldfender,,,,hey I was a kid...LOL

  • At 2:01 is Great Lakes Dragaway...still the same today!

  • Those are some great pictures.

  • @krt1ca It was all about traction. The tire technology wasn't there in the 60's so the cars were raised in the front to transfer weight to the rear wheels. Besides the high front end, engine and driver setback was used to accomplish this. As the tire technology improved in the 70's the focus was on aerodynamics.

  • i wonder why old drag cars were high on front wheels and the newer are low there ?
