jeez, i must be getting older. Believe me, I did time living and loving the Dead...butI can see the point...it takes a privileged, sheltered, and selfish orientation to escape into personal pleasure seeking, and it is a confused spirituality that equates feeling good and loving your community with being honorable and sacrificing for the greater good of all people on earth. addiction sadly is at the root of it...

those who tell do not know. those who no do not tell.
sooo many opinions, so much self-centric ideology. "i did this so it must be that, and that is the the way it must be for all"
you don't have to get me, i dont have to get you. you be true to you and i'll be true to me

What is wrong with seeing pleasure as spirituality? Why does all this bullshit like religion government school try to make us feel like we need to live a life of suffering or else we're selfish losers?

@ezrahouser Oh ffs...some people ....if ya wanna call them,,,,us,,,,"hippies",,,are not into the selfishness and mere "pleasure seeking". I myself am not confused spiritually- I am Catholic. Which is not the usual "hippie" thing is it?? Sometimes - with some people- it is genuine feelings and love. Not just some drug enduced fool's paradise. I think a lot of people from the 60s were also genuine and truly loved one another. If it comes from the heart it is REAL. I suggest you DIG that.

@CydnotCharrise1 Do you still have the flowers on your face or did you wash them off?

think your a free thinker, eh?, how about your diet being vegan & organic, your clothing being organic (and grown & made in your same country), & do something of service to make the world more enjoyable & healthy (be an organic farmer!, be a public school teacher, be a therapist or counselor... etc.) Have a good day, Peace & Harmony

I think the thing that bothered me at the time about being filmed was the fact that it was so biased against us. And time has proven me right. And I have noticed that TPTB in the media are against slammin' marijuana. And if they would legalize hemp which can't get you high we could use it to ( among other things ) we could use hemp as gasoline! The media still refers to hippies as "dirty" and I have seen this clip on places like America's Most Wanted which is ridiculous!
The blonde with the flowers on her face at 1:09 is ME at the age of 18. The original clip of this is in color and was taken from the beginning of a so called documentary by CBS called "THe Hippie Temptation." I was not watching the Grateful Dead ( though went to many of their concerts ) but was at a Country Joe and The Fish concert. I was asked permission and DENIED permission to be filmed; was asked why. I gave them a lecture about yellow journalism ( which THT WAS ). I was 18.
