Are you seriously talking about period correct frizzen springs and rate of twist, while you have an adjustable rear sight? Don't get the impression that I'm nitpicky about historical accuracy, I shoot a T/C Renegade flinter, but to be that picky about a frizzen spring and then have a 20th century sight seems hypocritical.
@fishblade2 no. try a greased patch also be sure to clean the bore well. smaller cal. muzzle loading rifles will foul up quickly making them hard to load. my 32 cal is the opposite. i actually have to foul the barrel to get a tight fit with ball and patch. fouling in the barrel will also affect accuracy.
okay I know that the one smoothbore pistol I have, being a pocket derringer, I can't worry about acuracy so my question is mainly about the patch. You load this gun easily with a .490 ball with a patch. My 32 caliber gun I try to load sometimes with just a .310 round ball and i can't seem to get it barely down the barrel much less a patch. Is this expected out of such a small caliber or a pistol?
Something strange about this video. If one of you were going to make a video of how well a gun shoots would you: A-- Take the target, gun and the camcorder to the range and make the film there or would you B-- Take the target and gun to the range, then go back home to the basement and make a video ? Hmmm, how odd. Me thinks there's something rotton in Denmark.....
It took Fraser at least a day to die. There is no documentation as to who shot him. Though he stated he was shot by a man in a tree.
There were many people who sniped before and after the Saratoga battles. Murphy was part of a regiment of snipers.
The Minie cannot tumble for the same reason a Foster shotgun slug does not, it flies lit a dart. It is unstable after impact and will veer wildly and was useless for anything but military use.
The round ball will not maintain 900 FPE at 400 yards at least not the typical bore of today. Over 150 with the RB is iffy even though they will kill well at 150-200 if sized right for the game. The problems of shooting 300 yards are both wind drift and drop. I have owned 5 50 cal rifles and hunted extensively with them over a period of 40+ years. Yes I have shot them at 300. A heavy load takes about 5 ft of hold over and 4-6 ft of wind drift in a 10-15 MPH wind. Deer at 300?
I have one in percussion! theyre absolutely amazing to shoot an like you said incredibly accurate

A good flintlock, if the wind co-operates, should shoot into about 6-7" at 200.
At least me 54 did when I did the testing about 5 years ago.
But it requires working up an accuracy load and being very careful ot be consistent in wiping between shots and lloading
