This is a 5 minute cut together demonstration of the type of content in my full tuition tutorial on how to bring data from a motion capture session into 3dsmax for use on a 'Biped' rig, using Motion Builder software.

The full tutorial is 40 minutes long, and covers the entire process of bringing your cleaned and identified Mocap data into Motion Builder, matching it to an Actor, and exporting the data attached to the Actor onto a custom BVH rig that has been made to match the 3dsmax 'Biped', so it can be imported to 3dsmax as Motion Capture data and used on the character studio 'Biped' rig.

The tutorial is available here:
http://www.turbosquid.com/FullPreview/Index.cfm/ID/527517

It includes the custom BVH 'Biped' rig, which isn't available for free anywhere. My contact details are available on turbosquid for correspondance.

  • Hey, nice video. What program did you use to get the shape following your cursor and respond to your clicks when you make this video?

  • @enterspacecapsu CamStudio, if I recall correctly, but it was a while ago now. It has caused some slight framerate issues, and I had to re-sync the sound, so I'd suggest something like Fraps for doing your own stuff.

  • I purchased this tutorial on turbosquid but couldn't actually find a way to contact you with questions. I ran into two problems. 1. The video seems recorded at 1 frame a second. This makes it very difficult to understand where on the rig you're clicking. 2. Your BVH rig isn't fully supported in MB2011. It loads but with warnings of incompatibility. So I was unable to reproduce your steps.

So is there a way to contact you with questions?

    Thanks

  • @maxfb08 Thanks for letting me know. Concerning the framerate, it was recorded at 60fps with screen recording software, but it should play smoothly enough in standard players. I had to adjust the sound slightly in Adobe Premiere to sync the sound properly, but that's it. What player are you using?

The MotionBuilder version is a new issue; as the rig was made for v7.5 extension 2. It brought up some warning signs then too, but worked fine. What were the actual problems you had when following it?

  • (part2)Anyway, the ~real~ problem I had was trying to understand how you rigged your exported biped to understand the motion capture. I created this video this morning; (refer to my video library) which shows my process and less than spectacular results. But I can't get my character rig to match FBX motion files I've purchased off of turbosquid. (Do you accept character rigging jobs? I'd love to pay someone to remove this hassle from me).

  • Hi again. (part 1) For the video players I tried several. Windows Media Player. Quicktime, and even CamStudio (you and I use the same recorder software). so I'm not sure why my results were subpar.
