So here's my friend,Ed again with that VERY explosive Big Band..led by you know who ! This cut shows Ed,in a reflective frame of mind ,as he explores the hauntingly lovely line of the Thelonious "Hymn".."Round Midnight" .I have this complete concert, which lasts for 71 mins. From the private collection of Colin Kellam...so if you are not only an Ed fan..but also into the gent seen, but not heard here..come & see me & we can "chew the fat" about the latter. I'm @:

  • That is so sweet! ...a great example of what can make improvised jazz so compelling on a guitar. Ed never loses the atmosphere of Monk's tune. You keep it relatively straight ahead, simple, and very blue - in keeping with the song's mood. But I don't really hear any cliches. Lines flow, and Ed has really nice touch.

Does he ever play a Telecaster anymore? That's a great sound. (I suppose it is slightly "Sternesque" - nothing wrong with that!)
