We were one of 4 carriages to summit Mt. Washington, NH via the Auto Road, Sunday July 17, 2011. In this video we are about 6 miles along the 7.6 mile climb, which averaged a 12% grade! It's noisy because it was EXTREMELY windy! Our pair are Arabian/Percheron full brothers, ages 6 and 8, put to an Eagle combo carriage. These barefoot horses wear rubber hoof boots on all four feet.

This Horse Event/Mt. Washington Carriage Road Weekend celebrated the 150th year since the Carriage/Auto Road was built. It was the first time horses had been back on the mountain in almost 100 years! 35 horses were ridden to the top, and 5 carriages participated.

  • @DiamondNotch Hope you saw the complete movie here... Horses reach summit of Mt. Washington, NH-- find it on my youTube channel if it doesn't show up for you here along the right side.

  • @DiamondNotch YES the whole way, especially above the treeline. We were thrilled to get to do it! It was a uniquely personal way to experience the road, now I feel like I know it intimately.

  • Oh my this view is just breathtaking...

  • @Bl0nnie All horses truly need a job to do. They are healthiest and happiest when they are outdoors (as you point out) and active! Our boys are in the best shape of their lives, content and friendly, have great dispositions, and do what we ask of them. Still their lives are easy and safe compared to horses in the wild.

  • My horse would go CRAZY if we didn't get her out of the barn! I think this is perfectly fine.

  • @HorsefeathersNYC We have NEVER abused our horses. Perhaps you have low expectations of what strong, well-conditioned and well-behaved horses are capable of.

  • You must mean, please visit and take this ride if you love horse abuse!
