@ perFecto100, Jack Johnson was Fighting For MONEY! He could do what ever he wished For the Race with MONEY in his pocket, the Belt around his waist. Why he didn't Fight any Black Fighters, iF that was indeed the case, I would look to the promoters of the day to Find the answer. He was and is a Hero to Blacks, A Glorious Hero, who's accomplishment still radiates to this day. No matter who trys to diminish it with "he was only in it For himself crap.
When Joe Louis asked Lena Horne, with whom he was then having a relationship, to keep score for him at a Hollywood golf benefit, the singer refused -- she was entertaining troops that day. Joe hit her with a left hook. Then he started to choke her. In his 1978 autobiography, written with Edna and Art Rust Jr., Louis said that the only thing that saved Lena's life was an aunt in the next room who threatened to call the police

johnson never defended his title against any fellow black fighter. not sure why that was, but he cant be seen as a hero for blacks. was in it for himself.
Well he did show black people that they were not only physically equal to white people, but can also be physically BETTER. And he lived by this admirable rule "I have found no better way of avoiding racial prejudice than to act with people of other races as if prejudice did not exist"
i think blacks without him showing them that they were physically as good if not better than a white man, they just were not getting the opportunities. what johnson (unintentionally )did show them is dont kiss white peoples ass.
