In the winter of 2005, Cynthia Shelton embarked on a journey not many of us would be keen on pursuing- a solo drive from California to Massachusetts in a 1973 Mercedes run on straight vegetable oil. She was successful in her journey- documented here- but came away feeling like the people she met on the road needed a way to connect. What better way to connect than through the internet? Hence the birth of The National VegOil Board. Spearheaded by Cynthia and other VegOil activists, The NVOB aims to educate the public as well as promote more research into straight veggie oil as a reliable and clean burning fuel.

  • the only problem is that there's no way we could produce enough veg oil for EVERYONE to use as a fuel

  • this is true. though i think it is still important for folks to re-use as much veg oil from their communities as possible. what it comes down to is folks driving less and using what fuel they have access too and sharing transportation as well.

  • Great car use to have one ran it on diesel. Great fuel economy and your right you can actually work on these cars. Any questions let me know

  • got some references for us on that, or just jealous we're not paying $5/gallon like you? Post us some references to support your position. It's not illegal in SC.

  • I hope to have my 1980 300d converted this year

  • Maybe not vegetable oil, but oils from other plants yes. If the oil companies knew what was good for them, they'd scrap their oil refineries and make just as much money in the long run planting huge fields of non-edible plants to replace their fuel supply.

  • its illegal in all 50 states. What esle did she say that wasn't true.

  • who cares. oil is taxed and veg oil is free lets leave it like that. dont get the government involved they'll just charge us for it.

  • Great vid, thanks for posting.
