They call February 3, 1959 "The Day the Music Died." Well, this video (while not nearly as tragic as that) marked a significant departure for classic game show fans. This video shows the final moments of the original Game Show Network and the birth of the current GSN.

While it may seem insignificant to some, for fans of how Game Show Network was run, this was the beginning of the end. Today's GSN bears little resemblance to what it set out to do when it debuted. The classics have been butchered and banished to the mornings, many great game shows aren't shown anymore, and there appears to be a laissez-faire attitude about programming. It's sometimes depressing to see how far it's fallen.

Sorry to seem like a downer, but it had to be said. While I hope GSN can rebound (and it's possible), it'll never be as good as it was before this changeover. Anyhow, here is the video.

  • R.I.P. Game Show Network

    (1994-2008)

GSN is total... TOTAL bullshit. Thank God for your channel, buddy...

  • @gameshowluvr86 I think...you're being too easy on them. :-D

I thank you. Your channel's really cool too. :-)

There may be others that I missed but if you do all that I asked you to do, it would make all of us proud.

    Love,

    Andrew

  • @JeopardyandWheelFan I like your requests. Too bad all of them will be ignored faster than DWTS will be in 11 days.

  • But I'm sorry I forgot it's no longer gameshow network, it's GSN, the network for LAME games lol

  • @M200XL Indeed. :-D

  • this used to be one of my favorite channels to watch now i rarely watch gsn anymore if at all

  • GSN IS HORRIBLE! IT IS GOING TO BE THE WORST FUCKING PEICE OF SHIT EVER!!!!

  • @gamelover1949 I agree. They should keep some of their originals such as Whammy!, classic Lingo, Chain Reaction, and Catch 21. Those are great shows.

I wouldn't worry too much about The Price Is Right since that was not part of the official Goodson-Todman lease nor was the 94-95 season of Family Feud.

I also wouldn't worry about The Gong Show or The $1.98 Beauty Show since they weren't really "game shows" but more of as just a parody show.

I wouldn't even worry about the shows that did not last beyond the Dark Period because those were very short-lived.

  • Dear GSN,

I have many special requests for you about what should and shouldn't be on your schedule.

Get rid of the current Newlywed Game and Baggage since you won't air anymore new episodes.

Also, get rid of reruns of Deal or No Deal, 1 vs. 100, and Family Feud with Richard Karn and John O'Hurley.

Bring back/show more of the classics including the Goodson-Todman shows and those shows owned by Sony as well as Let's Make a Deal, Press Your Luck, and classic Hollywood Squares.
