Binge Drinking - The Consequences C4 News Article

Liver failure among young people is soaring as a consequence of binge drinking. But are teenagers aware of the dangers of drinking? My niece Stacey passed away on May 22nd aged 24. Whilst Stacey was in hospital Channel 4 approached her to take part in a news report/ mini-documentary about alcohol and the affects it is having on youngsters today. Staceys family (and hopefully the other families involved) want as many people to see this as possible to get the message across to other children and parents. We do not have enough help and support out there for these young people and more needs to be done, we have an epidemic on the horizon. We hope this helps at least one youngster or family.

Funny how alcohol is legal and causes so many problems, yet certain drugs are banned, but you never hear of people on weed having massive fights! Hmm, I wonder if it's because the beer companies donate masses to government political parties and the tax booze brings in is significant. The greedy government get nothing from marijuana (because it's so easy to grow) except people with more free minds, so they 'ban' it instead! If that isn't population 'control', then I don't know what is.

@darkspy666 Couldn't agree more. I used to be an extreme alcoholic drinking up to a litre of vodka a day. Stopped rinking and have been sober for the past 12 months thanks to cannabis and i feel a million times better about myself and im 10 million times healthier!!

@darkspy666 oh grow up FFS...comparing weed to alcohol is like saying "id rather get whacked around the head with a pool cue than a crow bar"...just cos one dangerous substance is arguably slightly less dangerous than another does not make either any better or worse...the fact is that any substance used in moderation by non-addictive people is generally ok (i even know heroin users in this category), go past a certain point of over-use and youve got big problems, and yes that includes weed...

I have liver damage from alcohol. Reverisble but still damage. And i have drank 6 cans of special brew lager (9%) eeveryday for 14 years. This ids been doing 45 units of alcohol a day at 19. Thats enuf to send any old junkie down th pan

I know it's a serious issue and i had an alcohol problem when i was younger. But most teenagers I know only drink a few cans of lager at the weekend - not 6 litres of 7.5% cider a day! That's 44 units for christs sake of course his liver's gonna be damaged!

@lexybaby2225 They told me that and I knew anyway because the smallest amount of alcohol,say 15ml which is three teaspoons is enough to set off an agonising 8 hour flair up.As well as the pain I suffer with sickness/nausea,bowel cramps,diarrhea I can never plan to do anything or go anywhere as I never know what that day will be like.I have to wait for days that aren't so bad to come around and attempt things then.Also my diet is very limited,things hard to digest like meat cause me days of agony
