  • It was supposed to be a more lively piece, differing from the previous two, darker movements. Mendelssohn himself described the beginning melody of the 1st movement as "giving him no peace," so this movement might be meant to show off the virtuosity of the player, to lead to a more explosive finale. For this reason, Joseph Joachim described the Mendelssohn violin concerto as the "innermost, the heart's jewel."

  • i like the speed on this :)

but somethings definiately wrong with this recording... the video doesnt match up with the audio/...

  • it may as well be like this...no one ever records this concerto again. nothing will ever surpass this

  • OMG even dogs like Heifetz playing!

  • Holy s***.. Heifetz!!!

  • I love how he is almost smiling the whole piece. 3:23 , is that a true smile?

  • jesus.

  • KING OF VIOLIN

  • This is from the film, "THEY SHALL HAVE MUSIC," when they MADE GREAT FILMS,

which is NO LONGER IN EVIDENCE IN THE CONTEMPORARY world of film.

Heifetz would NEVER have participated in ANYTHING made today.

  • is this kind of a youth orchestra???
