This is pretty simple tutorial about making chiptunes. The samples in this are the same as in the other tutorial and by me. There is no complicated melody tricks, just showing you the basics of making chiptunes. I usually don't use this program so i don't know all the tricks and features in it, but hope you get the idea. :)

  • Thanks for this and other tutorials, they are very helpful with the explanations. :-)

  • Found everything, just in next your video, thanks!

  • Cool man, real fresh. I've been trying to whack out some chiptunes but i'm lacking samples. Can u tell me where'd you got them? Or how'd you made them? Or maybe post them somhere or send them to me? Thanks!

  • @crocz Well yeah of course, there are a lot of studies that show that 4/4 rhythms are easiest to digest among western societies, but also shown that other cultures don't respond the same way to these studies. Some feel that 5/4 is most natural because that's what they've heard all their childhood and previous generations(not that i know if that has anything to do with it). But I don't think our cultural heritage should define what we do with wish to create. Some culture has 7/4 as standard.

  • @vincentizghra I believe several studies have shown that 4/4 rhythms and such are the most natural for some reason. It sort of is harder because of that reason, and also because we are just so used to it. But there's no reason why you couldn't learn just about any other signature. But who cares about time signatures, let's all just make sweet soothing beatless drone ambient!

  • @crocz Ye that's what I mean by "trackers don't have a clue", you can do it, you just do it manually. Respecting your view, I can't find that writing in any kind of time signature would be pretentious, most of that which I hear in my head is not in 4/4, why would I then create anything else? It's not like it's harder to write in any specific time signature, it doesn't require anything. It just another dynamic. Like... velocity mapping... and without that how pale music would be.

  • @vincentizghra I don't understand what you mean by trackers don't have a clue about time signatures. If you mean like you can't just make a new project and select something like 56/-3, then yes. That's just not how it works. But that doesn't mean you can't make music in any signature, it just has to be done manually, just like making 4/4. But whatever, I think most music done in obscure signatures is just pretentious bullshit.

  • @vincentizghra Rossz is from 2005 and it isn't done in Renoise. Cavalcade of glee and his work beyond that is done mainly on Renoise. There are videos on youtube of him where he uses Renoise live. He's also on the Renoise forums, and is mentioned in the site as an artist who uses the software. End of argument.

  • @crocz Yea rossz is from 2004 I believe in a breakcore documentary from 2007 he says he almost exclusively uses Cubase. After some more research it seems obvious that trackers don't have a clue about time signatures anyway so you can write in any time signature but you will never have any indication of what time signature you're writing in. 1/32 all the way.

  • @vincentizghra Venetian Snares has used Renoise since 2006 to this day almost exclusively. In his early days he also used OctaMED a lot. There is a video of his track Vache playing in it, take a look at it. And yes, it is very possible to make music in any time signature in a tracker.
