In the south end of Winnipeg, the Canada Geese have gathered in preparation for their migration south. Every night, they return to a set of small lakes just north of our home. In the morning they take off again for somewhere else just south of here. Soon, they will be heading south for the season.

  • Thanks for sharing the experience of seeing the Canada Geese in Winnipeg.

My father and i went duck hunting at the Delta Marsh near Portage La Pairie in 1957.

Do these geese raise their goslings there or are they just flying through.??

  • @GARYKNERR - I've only been in Winnipeg since the summer of 2010, so take my answer with a large grain of salt. I believe the geese are just passing through. They spend about 1 month in the fall getting ready to head south, and then in the spring, they return and spend about another month before they move on. Having said that, I have seen many goslings in the spring, so perhaps some of them do nest here in the spring. Cheers.
