Both John McCain and Barack Obama have tapped into the idea of US exceptionalism - the idea that America has a special mission and responsibility for humanity - during their presidential campaigns. It is an idea whose origins lie with the Puritan Pilgrims, America's first settlers. We the People travels to a recreation of the pilgrim's first settlement in the US to explore the impact exceptionalism is having on the presidential race.

    Arrogant statement.

  • I hate to say it, but America has lost itself. It's not the shining beacon of light or whatever self-exalting word they can think of. It has lost itself.

  • LOL

  • That I actual have a bitch in you? Yep. I am glad too.

  • Glad i helped you come to that realization about yourself.

  • It is really not about whether you WANT to be a bitch or not, is it? If you are a bitch, then you are a bitch.

  • If you where wise like your name implies you would realize no one wants to be your bitch, bitch.

  • Why does everyone want to be my bitch?

  • What's all this talk about democracy? Did I wake up in a new country? It's a REPUBLIC and anyone who forgets that should not be allowed to vote on anything more than who is the local dog-catcher.

Never heard from so many brain dead people, World Trade Center bldg 7... wake up you idiots.

  • I will admit your a bitch an move on.

  • In what "perspective" is Tibet a country? Admit you are stupid and move on.

  • The problem with the majority of American peoples thinking is the unconditional faith and unquestioning, uncritical loyalty that they offer to their government. Americans should remember that governments are a human construct not a divine post. Questioning and criticizing your leaders is not being unAmerican or unpatriotic. Country and government are not the same thing. I am Irish and I love my country but I hold no allegiance to my government.
