mmm, that it definately a g. and that means its definately not completely wrong.
it is a "caged" g, caged meaning its normally played in the caged position, along with C and then D. a vast majority of worship songs use this system because it is easy to play and sounds good.
for the caged C, just move your middle and index finger down a fret.
for d, just play a regular d, keep the pinky on the 3rd fret e string if you like.
