The protests against gay marriage are never about the *sanctity of marriage*, because if the *sanctity of marriage* was that important, they'd be protesting against divorce.

@Smickarov People who do not want to have children should not have sex. It is up to God as to who will get pregnant from sex. Marriage is for the purpose of procreation. If a person is not interested in becoming a parent then stay single and don't have sex. Once one is married then nothing can invalidate that marriage.Let no man set asunder. It is only due to the hardness of man's hearts that God gives an exception to that rule, infidelity, but it was not so fromt he beginning.God hates divorce

If marriage is only to have children, a marriage should become invalid when a couple become too old to have children, and infertile people and people who don't want to have children should never, ever be allowed to marry. Would you also agree with that?

@Smickarov You must be a non-Christian, so I will answer you as if you are. The reasons we Christians have are all based in scripture; Romans 1 is good enough for us Christians. For the rest I guess you have to go with the fact that same sex marriage serves no purpose other than two people wanting to have sex with one another, get special rights given to them by the government and teach their children and the rest of society the wrong way to be happy, prosper and procreate; get saved & learn.

I'm a straight women, actually, and I'm just asking a question, one that you still haven't answered yet. How can/does gay marriage hurt anymore than straight marriage? And I don't just want "because it is teh EVULS".
-
@Smickarov Are you gay and trying to get approval from mankind or something?
I am a minister of the Gospel. If you want to ask an intellegent meaningful question about God's Word or what God teaches us through His Holy Scriptures then bring it on. Otherwise take your demonicly inspired worldly crap elsewhere. Everyone knows that gay marriage is something the devil and carnal minded fallen man dreamed up. Gay marriage does not even exist in the Bible. God can not even look upon such thing.

@whatthingssoever "and it will/does hurt everyone."
How exactly does gay marriage hurt anyone? Surely, it would not hurt any more than straight marriage.

Denying the institutution of marriage to homosexuals is THE SOURCE of all
discrimination and hatred aimed at homosexuals as it stigmatizes all homosexuals
as beig less and unworthy
My God, I wish all straight men thought this way. What a different world it would be
for those of us who are coping with being homosexual.

@MusingsofCris meant for for that sociopathic juvenile prick troll bishop8000, who apparently trolls other atheists to undermine the cause he ought to support, and acts like a fundamentalist lunatic who thinks he's awesome for making brain-dead insults to people, and he seems to seriously be a pretentious narcissist. I misread the comment, sorry.

@Furoar - ha, I never said such a thing. Who are you quoting?
Cris, your asking people to separate their opinions and beliefs from their actions. That's naive. Human beings don't work that way. If a person believes that homosexuality is an abomination, then in a democracy they are going to vote accordingly. Your argument is pretty much: "It's OK to believe whatever you want as long as you vote the way I want you to." Unfortunately, the path to a better world is through changing beliefs, not through disconnecting beliefs from behavior.

@bishop8000 - Valid point, and I understand that beliefs and actions go hand in hand. However, believing that homosexuality is wrong should have the effect of that person not marrying a person of the same sex. I don't understand how they feel justified in forcing others not to marry. Strangers marrying will not affect them in the least. There are no victims to save. Changing beliefs take time. Backward laws must change now.

@MusingsofCris All laws exist as a reflection of subjective beliefs and values. Heroine, murder, rape, child porn, many things are against the law because of collective moral objections to them. To a fundamentalist, homosexuality is just one more of those things. Obviously, I agree with you, I'm an atheist and a free thinker. But I think the argument you're making here falls flat, you're asking people to disconnect their beliefs from their vote, but the real driver is the beliefs themselves.

@bishop8000 - All of the things you list could be harmful to a person and a society. People may not be able to disconnect their belief from their vote, but I am voicing an opinion that this is something that should not be open to a vote.
